POWER STEERING RESERVOIR LEAK

One common problem with mercedes W210, W163, W211 is a leaking power steering reservoir.
The most common problem is a O-ring located on the back of the reservoir fluid. This O-ring goes bad due to time, usually after 5 years, dealer may charge $150 for repairing, you can do this for $10 and 45 minute time. So if you are up to it here is how.

You will need:
    • Manual Oil drain pump.
    • Screw driver
    • Paper towel, to clean up any spill (you will need this)
    • URO Parts 000 466 1880 Power Steering Reservoir Gasket (you can find these on AMAZON power Sterring ORING
    • Power Steering Reservoir Fluid  Optional
    • Power steering fluid
      • CHF 11S
      • Prestone AS268
      • Mercedes OE 0012403
So these are the steps to follow:
  1. Remove engine plastic cover.
  2. Drain Power steering fluid from reservoir using manual pump.
  3. Carefully unscrew clamp attaching power steering hose to the right bottom of the power steering reservoir. Do this carefully since the reservoir is plastic it may break. If you decide to change the whole Reservoir dont worry about breaking it.
  4. Remove the Torx bolt on the front left corner of the power steering reservoir. If you decided to change the reservoir, place the old one apart. If not be careful not to break it. DO NOT FORCE THE RESERVOIR OUT, there is a metal C clip at the back of the reservoir.
  5. This is the tricky part, Move to the back of the reservoir, you will see a torx screw, right below the screw is the C clip that holds the reservoir to the pump, you will have to insert a flat screw driver and pry off the clip it wont be easy, there is little space, but after locating the clip it will be easy, Be carefull not to loose the C Clip. You will get lot of power steering leaking once removed the clip so that is why you need paper towel.
  6. Pull to the front the Old reservoir and you will see the ORING tha is left behind on the metal coneector. If you do not see the ORING it might be stucked on the reservoir, please check and be sure you remove it, Sometimes these ORING just desolve to to age, there fore the leak.
  7. If using a new reservoir or Old, Before placing the oring, wet it with old power steering fluid. carefully place it inside the plastic that matches the metal piece on the power steering pump.
  8. Place back the reservoir making sure the ORIN stays in place.
  9. Put back the TORX bolt infront of the pump do not fully adjust
  10. Put the C Clip back, this might be a bit tricky, make sure it goes all the way in.
  11. Put the hoses back, and tight the TORX screw on the front.
  12. Top up with new power steerig fluid. PLEASE READ MY BLOG ON HEAVY POWER STERRING since there is a procedure to follow on changinf PS fluid.)
  13. Clean everything, and enjoy no more leaks.
  14. Please check for tightness on all power steering hoses since ussualy due to time they tendo to go loose.
